Lower Galveston Bay Watershed Galveston Bay is located on the Upper Texas Coast and is the largest estuary in Texas. Galveston Bay has 600 square miles of open water, nearly 1,500 miles of shoreline, and an average depth of six to eight feet. The Lower Galveston Bay Watershed includes land and surface waters in five counties - Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Harris and Liberty - that drain into the Galveston Bay Estuary. The US Census found that 3,988,688 people lived in the Lower Galveston Bay Watershed in 2000. The number of people living in the watershed is expected to increase in the coming decades.
